Create A High Performance Business Routine
By: Glenn Dietzel

Recently, I shared with my business mentoring clients that I see running a business as a competitive sport. This means that each day, I prepare to meet the challenges of my business just as if I were playing a competitive sport.

If you know anything about peak performance coaching or high performance coaching, you know that highly trained athletes go through a series of mental and physical drills and exercises to help prepare them to be at their absolute best.

The highest achieving athletes have unwavering routines to help them "get into the game" and attain superior results.

Now, contrast this to the typical small business owner who wakes up stressed out, late, and already behind. Guzzles a cup of coffee and grabs a danish as he or she runs to the office, fires up the computer, and starts dealing with all the emergencies that fill their inbox. The day passes quickly, putting out one fire or another- or, even worse, the day passes in overthinking and perfectionism, so nothing important actually makes it out the door.

Can you see why most entrepreneurs aren't as successful as they could be?

It's because they don't prepare themselves, each day, to attain peak performance.

As the old saying goes, if you don't plan to win, you're planning to fail. This, unfortunately, is one reason why many small businesses never get off the ground- it's because the small business owner hasn't decided that they will compete at a high level.

I, for instance, start each day by working out in the gym for a couple of hours. This helps me hone my physical body and focus. During this time, I also remind myself of my goals and passion and purpose. I have new conversations with myself, and try to create new frameworks to view my business.

I sometimes think about my clients, and how I can help them move further, faster and more efficiently.

I prepare each day, both physically, and mentally, to take new ground in my business. I use a regular practice of focused attention to help me identify what is most important today and therefore worth the most attention.

When I sit down to start my day, I have already prepared myself to be effective, efficient, and to create results.

Could you see the benefit of beginning each day this way?

I urge you to create a personally effective and fulfilling high performance routine to get better business results. Target yourself for high performance, and this is what you'll create.
